Am Waldrand liegt die Neubausiedlung „Die Hügel von Beauval“, eine in sich geschlossene Gesellschaft, in der alles geregelt ist und der Investor als Übervater Sorge für seine Bewohner trägt. Ein neuer Arzt wird gesucht und so kommt François, ein junger Arzt aus Paris in die französische Provinz. Seine Freunde, seine Freundin und auch er selbst können nicht konkret sagen, was ihn dazu treibt. Aber François lässt sich treiben und gerät schnell in die von subtilen Machtproben und Intrigen durchzogene Gesellschaft von „Beauval“.

Es ist vor allem die verschworene Gemeinschaft der Jugendlichen, die François sehr schnell zum Spielball ihrer undurchsichtigen Rituale macht. Bei den Mädchen, besonders bei der schüchternen Claire, löst der gut aussehende Arzt schwärmerische Fantasien aus. Die Mädchen simulieren Krankheiten und lassen den Arzt der Reihe nach zu nächtlichen Hausbesuchen antreten. Die Jungs betrachten ihn als Eindringling und provozieren ihn bei jeder Gelegenheit mit unverhohlener Feindseligkeit.

Nachts treffen sich die Jugendlichen regelmäßig am Waldrand, um sich in undurchschaubaren Ritualen und riskanten Spielen auszuprobieren, die geprägt sind von Verführung, Erniedrigung und subtiler Gewalt. Cédric treibt die Mädchen zu immer gefährlicheren Mutproben an, mit denen er Beweise ihrer Zuneigung und Ergebenheit fordert. Bis es zu einem tödlichen Unfall kommt und François in den Verdacht gerät, daran beteiligt zu sein…

Synopsis:

François, a young doctor fresh out of med-school, relocates from Paris to Beauval, a new town, where monotonous rows of brand-new houses make up the residential “Beauval Heights”. François quickly becomes the target for an adolescent gang, led by Cédric and Matthieu, a charismatic leader and his associate. At the edges of the forest, they play dangerous games to beat back their boredom. Dares, provocation, seduction, anything is an excuse to break the routine. But one of their games goes wrong.

The body of 12 year-old Agnes is found at the side of the road, the victim of a hit-and-run. The community sticks together in the face of this drama. However because of their will to dominate, Cédric and Matthieu don’t intend to simply forget the accident. Repressing their own part in the tragedy, they determine to find the runaway driver.

Suspecting François as the possible driver, they harass him with new fervor. The gang loiters in and around his house and closes in on his fiancé. Only the 14 year-old Claire has reserves, a sign of her attraction to the young doctor. A unique friendship develops between them, but she turns out to be his downfall.

The seemingly tranquil little village is pervaded by a menacing atmosphere of suspicion and manipulation. François’ life is in danger.

François, jeune médecin fraîchement diplômé, quitte Paris pour s’installer à Beauval, ville nouvelle, où les pavillons flambant neufs s’alignent avec monotonie dans la Résidence „Les Hauteurs de Beauval“. 
François devient vite un enjeu pour un groupe d’adolescents, mené par Cédric et Matthieu, un chef charismatique et son accolyte. La bande noie son ennui dans des jeux dangereux, à la lisière de la forêt. Défis, provocation, séduction, tout est bon pour briser la routine. Mais un de ces jeux tourne mal.

Le corps d’Agnès, 12 ans, est retrouvé sur le bord de la route. Elle a été renversée par un chauffard qui a pris la fuite. La communauté reste solidaire face à ce drame. Mais Cédric et Matthieu, dans leurs efforts de domination, n’entendent pas oublier l’accident aussi facile-ment. Pour refouler leur part de responsabilité, ils comptent trouver le coupable.

Dès lors, ils resserrent l’étau autour de François, qu’ils considèrent comme le conducteur possible. C’est alors que la bande d’adolescents rôde autour de sa maison, s’introduit chez lui, se rapproche de sa fiancée. Seule Claire, 14 ans, reste un peu à l’écart en affichant une attirance pour le jeune médecin jusqu’à établir une singulière amitié avec lui. Et, c’est elle finalement qui l’entraîne vers sa chute.

La tranquillité apparente de la petite ville laisse place à une atmosphère pesante de suspi-cion et de manipulation. La vie de François est en danger.
